I feel like playing a 2d game right now that was shut down called Glitch...it was quirky, adorable, and had the best community I had ever (and have ever) experienced in a game before (seriously the BEST community ever).
If you never had a chance to play it I guess I should try to explain what it was about. It was a browser based game that had a skill tree and levels built into it. There were no classes, and to unlock the different skills you would just choose one to learn and it would take a certain amount of time (I vague recall questing for the skills too so there were also quests). The leveling system was in place to give you more energy and fun (both were meters) the higher leveled you were. It was an open world concept (like minecraft) and it was a browser based mmo so what you did affected everybody else. You could collect things and drop things on the ground for others, and you could even make things yourself using skills (like engineering). Even though that sounds like a recipe for disaster (we could name the animals ourselves like a pig named Porkchop or Oink) it actually didn't turn into a swearing word contest. In my entire time there I never saw anyone swear, it was quite the opposite with people willing to help me level and farm certain items. It was a beautiful world too <3 the artwork and sound were superb for a browser based side scrolling game.
There was also no way to have a 'normal' looking character (with typical human skin colors) because there were no human skin colors.
The entire game was beautiful. From the depths of Hell (yes if you died in the game you went to hell and there were even rare grapes that grew down there that you could use to make the best wine). To the heavens. From underwater, big places, tiny places, prison, your home, the game was uniquely colored. Everyone had a great sense of humor too.
If anyone is reading this post and knows what Glitch is....and played it when it was alive...then you know what I mean when I say I miss it. There is no other game that reasonably comes close to what Glitch was.
R.I.P. Glitch (it died last year but I just really wanted to play it today and remembered it was gone...). Oh and if you guys want to see more cool pictures check out Glitch's official website <-that link takes you straight to the snaps other players took.
:o wow, this looks great. I wish I had known about it before now
ReplyDeleteThey have released the code and most of the objects and stuff to the public but nobody has put the game together again. XD it was a really fun game.
